Current Items of Interest
Sandy City staff has worked exhaustively with the owners of Kuwahara Nursery over the last five years to help them meet all city requirements. Kuwahara has not only failed to make the improvements to meet those requirements but has added unpermitted structures and other facilities which do not meet safety and fire codes required by state law. While Sandy City takes every step necessary to avoid shutting down a local business, we can no longer allow them to operate in good faith while there are so many safety and regulatory concerns for the public. We value Kuwahara and will continue to work with them to find solutions that will address the safety and regulatory requirements needed in order to allow them to reopen. Letter of Violations (PDF)

Cairns Master Plan
To address the growing needs of Sandy City and to accommodate regional growth, a vision for the creation of a city center has been developed, called the Cairns District. The Cairns Master Plan is a culmination of over 6 years of planning to re-imagine the future of Sandy's downtown area (a printer friendly version is also available). Design guidelines for the area are currently being developed based on the goals and policies outlined in this plan. This document was formally adopted by the City Council on January 17, 2017 as part of the City's General Plan (as a Local Area Master Plan).
Cairns Design Standards
The Cairns Design Standards were adopted by City Council on December 4, 2018. This document contains design requirements and guidelines for new development and redevelopment within the Cairns District that will help implement the City's vision outlined in the Cairns Master Plan.
