Waste Collection Guidelines

We would like to remind our residents about overfilling your garbage can. The can is considered overfilled when the lid doesn't close properly. In some cases, the cans are so overfilled that the lid either sticks straight up into the air or it isn't even used at all. These situations can either damage the automated equipment which Waste Management uses to collect the garbage or the garbage spills onto the streets. Also, please have your garbage and recycling cans out on the curb by 7:00 AM on your scheduled pickup day. Please make sure to set your cans at least 2 feet apart in order for them to be picked up easily.

*Please Note: If your collection day falls on any of the following holidays, scheduled service on those holidays and the days following will be delayed one day:

  • July 4th
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
  • New Years Day

If you have waste collection services through Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling District (black garbage can, blue recycle bin), please contact them at 385-468-6325 for their holiday collection schedule.

If your trash or recycling is missed, please contact Waste Management directly at 801-282-8200.

If you would like to have another container at your home, please contact Sandy City Utility Billing at 801-568-7110. Garbage Base includes one waste can and one recycling can for a charge of $15.95 per month. The cost for the first additional can is $8.00 a month. Three or more trash cans will be a charge of $15.95 per can per month, Extra cans are for a minimum of 3 months.

If you have a damaged can that needs to be repaired or replaced, please contact Sandy City Public Works at 801-568-2999.
